Veterans Transportation Network

The Veterans Transportation Network partners with the DAV and other organizations to offer Veterans transportation to and from their Iron Mountain VA appointments via nine established routes.  These DAV routes include Escanaba, Houghton, Iron Mountain, Ironwood, Marinette/Menominee, Marquette, Ontonagon, Rhinelander, and Sault Ste. Marie.   Due to national VA policy and state regulations this transportation is available for Veterans only (no dependants or caregivers) who are ambulatory and not using oxygen for safety reasons.

Scheduling a Ride

To schedule a ride, contact your local coordinator’s office 10-14 days prior to your appointment or when you first get your appointment scheduled.  Vans depart Iron Mountain no later than 2 pm (CST). Please schedule your medical appointments to end by 2 pm (CST).   If you are scheduled for a later appointment, contact the medical center and ask to have your appointment moved to an earlier time. If you have later appointments, you will be responsible for the cost of your overnight accommodations in Iron Mountain.  Call your local coordinator if you have to cancel your ride to the VA.

Need for Volunteer Drivers

The volunteer driver force numbers around 150 dedicated drivers.  Combined, they annually transport 1,700 Veterans to and from their Iron Mountain VA appointments, logging over a quarter million miles.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact (906) 774-3300, ext 32780 or the applicable coordinator above.  NOTE:  you do not need to be a Veteran or member of the Disabled American Veterans.
